Carer's Fund

The IIS UK Carer Support Fund is designed to enable broader participation in conference events by reducing barriers associated with caring responsibilities. We recognise that the cost and logistics of childcare or dependent care can prevent talented scientists and professionals from attending conferences, training events, and networking opportunities. This fund provides financial support to help address these challenges.

Purpose of the Fund

The fund aims to:

• Support members with childcare or dependent care responsibilities.
• Enable attendance at IIS UK event.
• Promote inclusion and equitable access to career development opportunities.
• Remove practical barriers to participation within the IIS UK meeting.

What Can Be Funded

Funding may be used to support reasonable additional care costs incurred as a direct result of attending an IIS-UK event. It is intended to cover additional care costs required specifically to enable attendance, rather than routine or ongoing care arrangements. Examples of costs that can be include:

• Childcare (e.g. nursery, childminder, babysitter, additional hours).
• Care for dependents (e.g. elderly or vulnerable individuals).
• Extended or out-of-hours care required to facilitate travel or attendance.

Eligibility

Applicants should:

• Have caring responsibilities (e.g. children or dependents).
• Be attending, presenting at, or contributing at the IIS UK meeting.
• Demonstrate that care-related costs would otherwise limit their ability to attend.
